BuyMeKola ("BuyMeKola", "we", "us") helps creators and communities receive support through shareable links and local payment methods. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use our website, products, and services (the "Services").

What we collect

Information you provide

  • Account details: name, email, phone number, username, profile photo, bio, social links.
  • Creator payout details: bank account information and basic verification details (where required).
  • Support messages: optional notes supporters leave for creators.
  • Support preferences: whether a supporter chooses to show their name or stay anonymous on public displays.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages viewed, clicks, device and browser information, IP address, approximate location (city/country), and referral source.
  • Cookies & similar tech: used for authentication, preferences, analytics, and security.

Payment information

Payments are processed by third-party payment processors (e.g., Paystack and/or Flutterwave) ("Payment Processors"). We typically receive payment status, reference IDs, amount, timestamp, and payer display name (where available). We do not store full card details.

How we use your information

We use information to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Services.
  • Create and display creator pages and share tools (links, QR codes, receipts).
  • Process transactions and send confirmations/receipts.
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, and suspicious activity.
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
  • Provide customer support and communicate service updates.

How we share your information

We share information only as needed:

  • With Payment Processors to process payments and confirm transactions.
  • With service providers (hosting, analytics, email, customer support tools) who help us operate the Services.
  • With creators: a creator may see supporter details associated with their page (e.g., name and message), depending on supporter choices.
  • Public display (optional): if a supporter chooses to show their name, it may appear on supporter walls/receipts. If they choose anonymity, we display "Anonymous" (or similar).
  • Legal & safety: to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect rights, safety, and security.
  • Business transfers: if we're involved in a merger/acquisition, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

Public information

Creator profile pages may be public. Information you choose to publish (username, profile photo, bio, social links, goals) will be visible to anyone with the link.

Data retention

We keep information as long as necessary to:

  • Provide the Services,
  • Maintain records for accounting and compliance,
  • Resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce agreements.

We may retain some data longer if required by law.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices & rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may:

  • Access, correct, or update your account information.
  • Request deletion of your account (subject to legal/compliance retention).
  • Opt out of marketing messages (service messages may still be sent).
  • Control cookies through your browser settings.
